Visual Arts (Grade 9)

This course enables students to develop their skills in producing and presenting art by introducing them to new ideas, materials, and processes for artistic exploration and experimentation. Students will apply the elements and principles of design when exploring the creative process.

Unit 1: Elements and Principles of Design

Students explore the fundamental elements and principles of visual design through introductory art activities.

Unit 2: Drawing and Observation

Students develop drawing skills and learn techniques for observing and representing objects and environments.

Unit 3: Painting and Colour Theory

Students explore painting techniques and examine how colour is used to communicate ideas and emotions.

Unit 4: Sculpture and Mixed Media

Students experiment with three-dimensional forms and mixed media materials to create artistic works.

Unit 5: Art, Culture, and Expression

Students examine how art reflects cultural perspectives and personal expression.

Unit 6: Culminating Art Portfolio

Students develop a portfolio of artwork demonstrating their creative development and understanding of visual art concepts.
