Description

This course enables students to develop their understanding of concepts related to biology, chemistry, physics, and Earth and space science, and to relate science to technology, society, and the environment. Throughout the course, students will develop and refine their STEM skills as they use scientific research, scientific experimentation, and engineering design processes to investigate concepts and apply their knowledge in situations that are relevant to their lives and communities.

Unit 1: Scientific Investigation Skills and Career Exploration

Students develop foundational scientific investigation skills, including research, experimentation, data collection, and analysis. They also explore careers related to science and technology.

Unit 2: Biology – Sustainable Ecosystems

Students examine ecosystems and the interactions between living organisms and their environments. They investigate biodiversity, sustainability, and the impact of human activities on ecosystems.

Unit 3: Chemistry – Matter and Chemical Reactions

Students explore the properties of matter and how substances interact. They investigate chemical reactions and examine the role of chemistry in everyday life.

Unit 4: Physics – The Nature of Electricity

Students investigate electricity and energy transfer. They explore circuits, electrical devices, and the applications of electricity in technology and daily life.

Unit 5: Earth and Space Science

Students examine Earth's place in the universe and explore scientific discoveries related to space. They investigate technologies used to study space and their impact on society.

Unit 6: Culminating Scientific Investigation

Students complete a scientific investigation or project that integrates concepts from multiple units. They apply scientific inquiry skills to design experiments, analyze results, and communicate findings.
