Description

This course enables students to enhance their understanding of concepts in biology, chemistry, earth and space science, and physics, and of the interrelationships between science, technology, society, and the environment. Students are also given opportunities to further develop their scientific investigation skills. Students will plan and conduct investigations and develop their understanding of scientific theories related to the connections between cells and systems in animals and plants; chemical reactions; factors affecting climate change; and the interaction of light and matter.

Unit 1: Biology – Tissues, Organs, and Systems of Living Things

Students investigate how cells form tissues, organs, and systems in living organisms and how these systems function together.

Unit 2: Chemistry – Chemical Reactions

Students examine the nature of chemical reactions and explore how chemical processes affect everyday life.

Unit 3: Earth and Space Science – Climate Change

Students investigate factors that influence climate change and examine the impact of human activity on the environment.

Unit 4: Physics – Light and Optics

Students explore the properties of light and how it interacts with different materials.

Unit 5: Scientific Inquiry and Technological Applications

Students apply scientific investigation skills to analyze and solve problems.

Unit 6: Culminating Scientific Investigation

Students complete a final investigation integrating concepts from multiple scientific disciplines.
