Description

This course enables students to consolidate, and continue to develop, an understanding of mathematical concepts related to number sense and operations, algebra, measurement, geometry, data, probability, and financial literacy. Students will use mathematical processes, mathematical modelling, and coding to make sense of the mathematics they are learning and to apply their understanding to culturally responsive and relevant real-world situations. Students will continue to enhance their mathematical reasoning skills as they solve problems and communicate their thinking.

Unit 1: Mathematical Thinking and Problem Solving

Students explore mathematical processes and strategies used to solve problems. They develop reasoning and communication skills while applying mathematical thinking to real-world situations.

Unit 2: Numbers and Algebra

Students investigate relationships involving numbers and variables. They learn to represent, analyze, and solve algebraic expressions and equations using various strategies.

Unit 3: Measurement and Geometry

Students examine measurement concepts and geometric relationships. They apply formulas and geometric reasoning to solve problems involving shapes, space, and measurement.

Unit 4: Data and Probability

Students collect, organize, and analyze data using tables, graphs, and statistical tools. They explore probability concepts and interpret data to make informed conclusions.

Unit 5: Financial Literacy

Students explore real-world financial situations involving budgeting, saving, and spending. They apply mathematical reasoning to financial decision-making and everyday economic contexts.

Unit 6: Culminating Mathematical Investigation

Students complete a comprehensive investigation applying concepts from across the course. They demonstrate problem-solving, reasoning, and communication skills through a final project or task.
