The Arts

The Grade 1 Arts course encourages students to express ideas and emotions through creative exploration. Students develop imagination, creativity, and confidence while experimenting with a variety of artistic forms.

Unit 1: Visual Arts

Students create artwork using drawing, painting, collage, and mixed media while exploring elements such as colour, shape, and texture.

Unit 2: Music

Students explore rhythm, melody, and musical patterns through singing, movement, listening, and simple instrument activities.

Unit 3: Drama

Students participate in storytelling, role-play, and imaginative activities that support communication and emotional expression.

Unit 4: Dance

Students respond to music through movement while developing coordination, rhythm, and creative expression.
