Description

This course introduces the mathematical concept of the function by extending students' experiences with linear and quadratic relations. Students will investigate properties of discrete and continuous functions, including trigonometric and exponential functions; represent functions numerically, algebraically, and graphically; and solve problems involving applications of functions.

Unit 1: Characteristics of Functions

Students explore the concept of functions and examine different ways to represent them.

Unit 2: Algebraic Functions and Transformations

Students investigate transformations of functions and analyze their graphs.

Unit 3: Exponential Functions

Students explore exponential growth and decay and apply these concepts to real-world problems.

Unit 4: Trigonometric Functions

Students investigate trigonometric relationships and their applications.

Unit 5: Function Applications and Modelling

Students apply functions to model real-world situations and analyze relationships.

Unit 6: Culminating Mathematical Investigation

Students complete a final investigation applying multiple function concepts.
