Exploring Family Studies (Grade 9)

This course explores within the context of families some of the fundamental challenges people face: how to meet basic needs, how to relate to others, and how to manage resources.

Unit 1: Individual Development and Identity

Students explore personal development and factors that shape identity.

Unit 2: Relationships and Families

Students examine family structures and the importance of healthy relationships.

Unit 3: Resource Management

Students learn strategies for managing personal and family resources.

Unit 4: Food, Shelter, and Basic Needs

Students investigate how families meet basic needs in society.

Unit 5: Life Skills for Everyday Living

Students develop practical life skills related to independence and responsibility.

Unit 6: Culminating Family Studies Project

Students complete a project demonstrating their understanding of family and social issues.
