English (Grade 11 – College Preparation)

This course emphasizes the development of literacy, communication, and critical and creative thinking skills necessary for success in academic and daily life. Students will study a variety of informational and graphic texts as well as literary texts from Canada and other countries. The course is intended to prepare students for the compulsory Grade 12 college preparation course.

Unit 1: Reading and Responding to Texts

Students develop strategies for understanding and responding to literary and informational texts.

Unit 2: Short Stories and Narrative Writing

Students analyze narrative structures and create their own narrative texts.

Unit 3: Poetry and Creative Expression

Students explore poetry while developing their creative writing skills.

Unit 4: Media Literacy and Digital Communication

Students examine the role of media in shaping perspectives and communication.

Unit 5: Practical Writing and Workplace Communication

Students develop writing skills for real-world and workplace contexts.

Unit 6: Culminating Literacy Project

Students complete a final project demonstrating their reading, writing, and communication skills.
