Description

This course is designed to extend the range of oral communication, reading, writing, and media literacy skills that students need for success in secondary school and daily life. Students will analyze literary texts from contemporary and historical periods, interpret and create a variety of media texts, and produce a range of written forms for different purposes and audiences. The course is intended to prepare students for the Grade 11 university or college preparation course.

Unit 1: Literary Analysis and Interpretation

Students read and analyze a range of literary texts from different periods and genres while developing skills in literary interpretation and critical thinking.

Unit 2: Short Stories and Narrative Writing

Students examine narrative techniques through the study of short stories and develop their own narrative writing.

Unit 3: Poetry and Literary Expression

Students explore poetic forms and techniques while developing their skills in interpreting figurative language and poetic meaning.

Unit 4: Media Literacy and Communication

Students analyze how media texts influence audiences and develop critical media literacy skills.

Unit 5: Writing for Purpose and Audience

Students produce a variety of written texts including persuasive, analytical, and informational writing.

Unit 6: Culminating Literary Study

Students complete a major literary study or project demonstrating their ability to analyze and communicate ideas effectively.
