Dance (Grade 9)

This course provides opportunities for students to explore dance as an art form and as a means of personal expression. Students will develop movement skills and explore the elements of dance through performance and choreography.

Unit 1: Foundations of Movement

Students explore the elements of dance and develop basic movement skills through guided activities and exercises.

Unit 2: Dance Techniques and Styles

Students learn techniques from a variety of dance styles while developing coordination, flexibility, and expressive movement.

Unit 3: Cultural Dance Forms

Students explore dance traditions from diverse cultures and examine how dance reflects cultural identity and expression.

Unit 4: Choreography and Creative Movement

Students create original dance sequences using choreographic tools and creative movement techniques.

Unit 5: Performance and Reflection

Students refine performance skills and reflect on the role of dance as a form of artistic communication.

Unit 6: Culminating Dance Performance

Students present a final dance performance demonstrating their understanding of dance techniques and choreography.
