Chemistry (Grade 11 – University Preparation)

This course enables students to deepen their understanding of chemistry through the study of the properties of chemicals and chemical bonds; chemical reactions and quantitative relationships in those reactions; solutions and solubility; and atmospheric chemistry and the behaviour of gases.

Unit 1: Properties of Matter and Chemical Bonding

Students explore the structure of atoms and molecules and investigate chemical bonding.

Unit 2: Chemical Reactions and Stoichiometry

Students analyze chemical reactions and examine quantitative relationships in reactions.

Unit 3: Solutions and Solubility

Students investigate the properties of solutions and factors affecting solubility.

Unit 4: Gases and Atmospheric Chemistry

Students examine the behaviour of gases and explore environmental issues related to atmospheric chemistry.

Unit 5: Applications of Chemistry

Students investigate how chemistry is applied in industry, technology, and everyday life.

Unit 6: Culminating Chemistry Investigation

Students complete a final investigation demonstrating their understanding of chemical principles.
