Description

This course furthers students' understanding of the processes involved in biological systems. Students will study theory and conduct investigations in the areas of biodiversity; evolution; genetic processes; the structure and function of animals; and the anatomy, growth, and function of plants.

Unit 1: Biodiversity

Students explore the diversity of living organisms and examine the importance of biodiversity to ecosystems and human life.

Unit 2: Evolution

Students investigate the mechanisms of evolution and examine evidence supporting evolutionary theory.

Unit 3: Genetic Processes

Students explore DNA, inheritance, and genetic variation in living organisms.

Unit 4: Animals: Structure and Function

Students examine the structure and function of animal systems and how they support survival.

Unit 5: Plants: Anatomy, Growth, and Function

Students investigate plant systems and how plants grow and respond to their environment.

Unit 6: Culminating Biological Investigation

Students complete a final investigation applying biological concepts studied throughout the course.
